A few days ago, Rosalie (7) and I were playing in her room. Instead of playing with the little dolly that goes to the doll house, she was “Bird” – holding onto and playing with the plastic birdbath with 2 birds sitting on top. She handed me an itty bitty stuffed bear so I could be “Bear”. We played hide and seek, and had pretend dinner. It was fantastic to see her playing so interactively, but just a bit odd in a way because she was not playing in a typical way. She mostly played by herself, but every once in a while she would say “Bear, Bear, come eat” and then she’d turn her back on me and go play by herself again. By the end, she was playing ‘with’ me about 50% of the time and only parallel playing the other half.
